Can you paint a natural stone such as keystone?

Silvia C asked: We have an outside pond with a fountain, it is made out of keystone, is it OK to paint/stain/varnish the stone? I was told to spray dark tea and it would appear as old and distressed which is the look we want to acheive….. any ideas??Ella

Does paint used for painting a sheet metal roof contain anything that would be harmful to goldfish?
