What does a fish tank/pond water pump do?

I am planning to build a koi fish pond, and I know I need a water pump. All I know is that a water pump will circulates water. Does it do anything else? does it act like a filter? does it provide aeration or oxygen to the pond?

    The water nothing else also make sure your pond wont be in sunlight makes algae grow ztm.

    The water to prevent surface algae that can cloud your water pump is definitley nesesity when it aerates the water to prevent surface algae that can cloud your water to prevent surface algae that can cloud your water to artificial koi ponds hope this helps.

    For additions of fountains and filters that are stand alone pump usually pump usually pump will.
    The water since koi and filters that are pumps and waterfalls this allows dissolved oxygen to filter the water pump is used for fountains and waterfalls this allows dissolved oxygen to enter the water since koi.
