Garden Ponds – Water Gardens

There are not many things you can add to your garden that will be as rewarding or enjoyable than a water garden. Imagine a summer’s day relaxing in your garden and listening to the wonderful sound of water rippling from your water feature or watching the fish feeding on the insects in the water close to you.
Imagine the sight of a water lily closing and the lights coming on around the garden as a perfect summers day comes to an end.

A hobby for all the family

Whether your pond is formal or informal, has fish or just plants in it, you can be sure of a great hobby and one all the family can be involved in. A garden pond can be a simple container on your patio with a few plants and a water feature or a large garden pond with lots of fish, water lilies, pumps and filters, attracting lots of wildlife to your garden. Children will want to feed the fish and will take a great interest in how fish live and survive in their garden pond. They can observe other wildlife that will be attracted by the water and plants.

Safety first for your garden pond

There are a few important points you need to take into consideration when building or buying a garden pond. Children are always attracted to water and more so if there is a water feature or fish swimming around. Children must be supervised at all times unless you have a strong fence around the pond that you are positive a child could not climb and get near to the garden pond and fall in if left unsupervised.
If you have young children and you are building your own pond you will be able to design the garden pond to your own specification. You can incorporate shallow edges to allow a child to get out of the water in the event of an accidental trip or fall at the edge of the garden pond. You could build a raised garden pond and cover it with netting. In this way the raised wall will act as a barrier and the netting will stop the child falling in if they successfully climb up the wall. The netting, if fine enough, would also stop debris falling into the water and contaminating it.

Gardens lights for your pond

The market in garden lights has exploded over recent years and you will be spoilt for choice. The most important thing to remember is to have all electrical items fitted by a qualified electrician to ensure correct fitting and all regulations are complied with.
After that you can create a wonderful garden that you and your family and friends can enjoy all year round as you can erect lights wherever you want. Garden ponds look wonderful when lighted and you can incorporate underwater lights, if you wanted, when building your garden pond. Lights in the garden encourage us to enjoy our gardens day and night and if you add a heater of some sort, all year round.
